Nearly all of us will have a personal experience with a disabling illness or injury at some point in our lives. Either we will become impaired ourselves or we will provide care to someone with a disability. The goal of our team's work is to improve the lives of those of us who are living with disability as well as their caregivers (paid and unpaid) by i) Preventing fall-related injuries because of slips on icy surfaces or trips on outdoor walkways, ii) Supporting the care of older adults and individuals with disabilities by preventing caregiver injuries and developing better ways to prevent pressure injuries, and iii) Improving accessibility of outdoor spaces like national parks, sidewalks, and intersections for older adults and individuals with disabilities; and reducing the risk of damage to wheelchairs during air travel.
Tripping hazards are common on urban streets and walkways.
Using computer vision and machine learning can be used to measure tripping hazards
