UHN March for Science
UHN Marches for Science on April 14, 2018 – Save the Date!
On April 14, people from across Canada will show their support for science as part of the international “March for Science” movement. As members of Canada’s largest research hospital, we are aware—on a daily basis—of the importance of science to making smart decisions, improving health, and building prosperity.
This year, UHN will be a big part of the movement. UHN leadership, researchers, staff and trainees will be at the event and will be showing their support of Canadian research.

Science impacts every aspect of our lives. It provides us with a way to protect our health and our environment, to make informed decisions, to innovate, to identify and address inequalities, and to create smart and sustainable economic growth.
While the benefits of science may often be taken granted, science advocacy—from grassroots to political activism—is key for Canada to safeguard and build a safe, healthy, prosperous and just society.
We will march for:
- Reinvestment in independent research, which has fallen by around 35% per researcher in the past decade [2017 Canada’s Fundamental Science Review]
- To show our support for fundamental and basic medical research, which lays the foundation for transformational real-world applications, such as new therapies, and better patient care
- Sustained investment in research as a way to drive innovation, build a knowledge economy and improve the well-being of Canadians
