Congratulations to Krembil Affiliate Scientist Dr. Herbert Gaisano for his appointment to the Order of Ontario. This honour is the Province's highest for excellence in any field of endeavour.
Dr. Gaisano was among 27 individuals invested into the Order by Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell at a ceremony at Queen's Park on January 20, 2016.
The appointment honours Dr. Gaisano as "one of the world's leading gastroenterologists" and for his contributions to the field of diabetes research. His work has shed light on our understanding of the molecular mechanisms that govern insulin secretion and advanced the development of new approaches to restore normal insulin secretion. Specifically, Dr. Gaisano and colleagues were first to identify how SNARE proteins cause insulin secretory deficiency in diabetes and pancreatitis.
