Dr. Azadeh Yadollahi has been appointed to a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Cardiorespiratory Engineering. Tier 2 chairs support exceptional emerging researchers who are acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field.

Dr. Yadollahi is a biomedical engineer and an expert in cardiorespiratory disease. Her innovative research program is focused on understanding how water accumulation in the lungs and body affects chronic cardiorespiratory diseases.

By leveraging partnerships with leading experts and industry partners, she is developing next-generation textile-based sensors that can be used to conveniently diagnose, monitor and treat patients with cardiorespiratory diseases in their own homes and communities. The technologies that she is developing have the potential to reduce hospital admission and improve quality of life for individuals with these diseases.

Dr. Yadollahi is a Scientist at The KITE Research Institute at UHN (UHN-KITE), an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto's Institute of Biomedical Engineering, and heads the UHN-KITE SleepdB laboratory. SleepdB houses advanced equipment for the study of the pathophysiology of chronic cardiorespiratory disorders such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sleep apnea and heart failure.

The CRC program, which invests approximately $295 million per year, was established to attract and retain the world’s most accomplished scientists. Chairholders are expected to improve our depth of knowledge and quality of life through their research, strengthen Canada's international competitiveness and help train the next generation of highly skilled professionals.
