The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PM)—part of the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto, Canada—is seeking candidates for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Cancer Biology. Applicants must hold an appointment at PM at the level of Scientist. The successful candidate will be nominated for the next Canada Research Chair competition.

PM is Canada’s largest comprehensive cancer centre and one of the leading cancer research institutes in the world. With tightly integrated research and clinical arms, PM houses world class scientists and state-of-the-art research facilities towards advancing its flagship precision cancer medicine program. UHN is a fully affiliated research hospital of the University of Toronto.

Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs are for emerging scholars. They should, at minimum, be assistant or associate professors, or possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed to these levels. To meet the criteria of the program, nominees must be no more than 10 years from their first degree (PhD or MD) at the time of the nomination. Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process (further information here).

Applicants must be outstanding and innovative researchers whose accomplishments have the potential to make a major impact, and become an internationally recognized leader in their field; have records of attracting and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and be proposing an original, innovative research program.

Applicants are invited to submit the following:
  • a complete academic curriculum vitae (CV)
  • a two-page research proposal highlighting the major themes of research to be completed over the next five years
  • a one-page description of how the applicant will help attract additional resources, including financial, non-financial, training and/or collaboration opportunities
