- Research Solutions and Services (RSS)
RSS comprises 322 staff across 16 departments that facilitate high-calibre research at University Health Network (UHN).
Animal Resources Centre provides facilities and support for biomedical research involving animal models of human diseases, including procurement, housing, technical services and medical care. The facility is fully accredited by the Canadian Council on Animal Care, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare.
Clinical Research Support Systems provides researchers with support and training for clinical research systems and processes necessary to conduct research involving humans. The team manages the non-oncology Clinical Research Record (CRR; online patient safety tool linked to the Electronic Patient Record), Coordinated Approval Process for Clinical Research (CAPCR; web-based application to obtain all approvals, including Research Ethics Board approval) and Institutional Authorization resources.
Clinical Trial Agreements provides support for drafting and negotiating all human subjects research agreements.
Grant and Contract Services supports the funding awards process through grant application management and post-award administration.
MedRIST is a business innovation unit that channels UHN-developed expertise and best practices towards the creation of services and solutions for clients that include research and academic institutions.
Office of Research Trainees registers all trainees at UHN, enhances the quality of the research training and mentoring experience, facilitates information exchange and interaction among trainees and assists trainees in obtaining external funding.
Research Ethics Review Services ensures that all research involving human participants conducted at UHN adheres to the highest scientific and ethical standards.
Research Facilities Planning & Safety provides support in space management, relocation, capital equipment procurement, construction/renovation, corporate grant administration and research safety.
Research Financial Services administers finances from federal, provincial, international and private grants and contracts.
Research Information Systems provides computing support, file and data management, application development and training across all sites.
Research Laboratory Services provides glasswashing and autoclaving services; a centralized store for purchasing lab consumables; and key support for the security and day-to-day operations of laboratory facilities, including building and equipment maintenance.
Research Program Planning & Analysis provides research activity reporting and bibliometric analysis for individuals and departments. The team also supports survey, operational evaluation and planning needs.
Research Quality Integration conducts quality audits of systems and processes supporting clinical studies, strengthens research safety, quality, and compliance with regulations and accepted standards, through process improvement, policy, standards and training.
Strategic Research Initiatives Development develops grant proposals, manages the UHN Research profile and prepares communications and special projects for the Office of the Executive Vice President, Science and Research.
Technology Development & Commercialization is responsible for developing commercialization strategies for the most promising medical discoveries made by UHN’s researchers and clinicians and advancing them toward patient impact by negotiating research partnerships, licenses, and the formation of venture funded start-up companies.
Research Training Development & Communications develops and implements educational eLearning modules and blended training programs. The team uses empirically established eLearning principals to ensure successful training outcomes.
