David Cescon, MD

As a Medical Oncologist and Clinician Scientist, the goal of my research program is to combine insights from basic laboratory and clinical research, using technologies for sophisticated tumour analyses to understand breast cancer behaviour, tumour response and resistance to therapy. Specifically, we develop and employ a large collection of laboratory models of breast cancer in order to identify treatment vulnerabilities in order to develop strategies that can be translated to the clinic. This program has permitted the launch of multiple clinical trials for patients with advanced breast cancer, and our bench-to-bedside work has improved the understanding of why and how treatments work in some individuals and not others. Employing the unique resources and expertise developed in my lab, we collaborate widely with basic scientists at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and beyond in order to maximize the potential of new discoveries to achieve clinical impact.
