Dr. Barned’s research has attended to issues at the intersection of psychology and bioethics. Her work has covered topics such as cultural constructions of health and beauty, lived experiences of illness, children’s participation in biomedical research, and voluntary decision-making within the context of drug addiction. Presently, her research focuses on racial justice in health and healthcare ethics more broadly. Her work takes up a decolonial approach to inquiry and focuses on core themes such as equity, social justice, and advocacy with attention to race and race relations. With advanced training in social psychology and neuroethics, her work often bridges multiple disciplines while incorporating diverse methods of investigation (e.g., qualitative interviews, knowledge syntheses, survey development and validation).
