On November 13, 2016, Krembil Senior Scientist Dr. Dafna Gladman received the Evelyn V. Hess Award from the Lupus Foundation of America. The award was presented to her during a special reception held in Washington, DC.

The award was given to Dr. Gladman in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the study of lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease. She is the co-director of the University of Toronto Lupus Clinic and has led numerous studies on the genetics and morbidity of the disease. She was also a founding member of the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC) group and played an instrumental role in the development of unique disease activity and damage indices that continue to be used worldwide in clinical trials.

The Evelyn V. Hess Award is presented annually to a clinical or basic researcher who has significantly advanced our understanding of the biology, diagnosis or treatment of lupus.
