The inaugural Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research 1st Scientific Symposium (TRCHR), at the Toronto Park Hyatt, brings together international experts in the field of heart failure research. The Symposium, being held on May 12 and 13, 2016, is divided into four sessions:

  • Personalized Heart Failure Care
  • Improving Heart Failure Care & Outcomes
  • Cardiotoxicity and Heart Failure
  • Trainee Workshops

The keynote, delivered yesterday by Dr. Hugh Watkins, Head of the Radcliffe Department of Medicine (University of Oxford), was titled “What Can Genetic Testing Offer Patients with Heart Failure?” It presented a balanced view that weighed current expectations of existing heart disease markers and their utility in real populations.

Other international speakers include: Drs. Adrian Hernandez (Duke Health), Mikhail Kosiborod (St. Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute) and Kevin Healy (University of California at Berkeley). Local speakers include UHN researchers Drs. Phyllis Billia, Anthony Gramolini, Douglas Lee, Michael Laflamme, Dinesh Thavendiranathan and Milica Radisic.
