Ishrat Husain

Dr. Ishrat Husain [MBBS, MD(Res.), FRCPsych (UK), FRCP(C)] is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, where he also holds the Cameron Wilson Chair in Depression Studies. He serves as the Department Head and Program Medical Director of the Centre for Mental Health, University Health Network. Dr. Husain attended medical school at the St. George’s University of London, completed his psychiatry training in the world-renowned South London and Maudsley training scheme, and his doctoral research at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience, King’s College London. 

 

Dr. Husain's research program focuses on advancing the understanding and treatment of mood disorders across populations through clinical trials of established and emerging treatments. His research has been funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Grand Challenges Canada, and the Wellcome Trust, and his publications have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Psychiatry, and JAMA Psychiatry. Dr. Husain’s work has been recognized with numerous provincial, national, and international awards. Dr. Husain is passionate about addressing gaps in mental health care, training and research while supporting and mentoring the next generation of psychiatrists, clinicians, and scientists to pursue a career in academic psychiatry.
