UHN Scientists Win CRC Chairs

Eight prestigious Canada Research Chairs were awarded or renewed for researchers at UHN

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science recently announced that eight UHN researchers will be awarded a total of $8.5 million from the Canada Research Chairs (CRC) program.
 
The CRC program was established to attract and retain the world’s most accomplished and promising scientists. Chair holders are expected to improve our depth of knowledge and quality of life, strengthen Canada's international competitiveness and help train the next generation of highly skilled professionals.
 
The UHN scientists who received CRC funding are:

  • Angela Cheung – Tier 1 CRC in Musculoskeletal and Postmenopausal Health
  • Myron Cybulsky  – Tier 1 CRC in Arterial Wall Biology and Atherogenesis
  • Robin Green – Tier 2 CRC in Traumatic Brain Injury—Cognitive Rehabilitation Neuroscience
  • Kevin Kain – Tier 1 CRC in Molecular Parasitology
  • Pamela Ohashi – Tier 1 CRC in Tumor Immunity and Immunotherapy
  • Antonio Strafella – Tier 2 CRC in Movement Disorders and Neuroimaging
  • Donald Weaver – Tier 1 CRC in Drug Design for Protein Misfolding Disorders
  • Daniel Winer – Tier 2 CRC in Immunometabolism

These outstanding individuals are among the 41 elite scientists who received University of Toronto CRCs. Congratulations to all.
