TRI held its 10th annual Research Day on December 1st, 2014. Throughout the day, researchers and trainees shared their work through posters and interactive research displays. The day also included short oral presentations, known as “Minute Madness”, that challenged researchers to describe their research and how it will benefit people in one minute.  In the afternoon, TRI’s Brain Discovery and Recovery Team led a Mindfulness Meditation session, giving participants a five minute break from the activities.

“All of our research teams have contributed to significant advances in their respective fields, and they are all poised to have a huge impact on the quality of life of a great many of people in the next few years”, said Dr. Fernie.

The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr. Anthea Tinker, a Professor at King’s College London (UK) who is a well-recognized expert in the field of social policy as it relates to gerontology. She leads a multidisciplinary research program and frequently collaborates with clinicians, engineers, architects and social scientists. Her presentation was particularly pertinent to TRI’s research day as it highlighted the different ways in which technology can contribute to the long-term care of older people.

The day concluded with the presentation of a variety of awards and scholarships, including the People’s Choice award for the best Minute Madness presentation and the TechnoVation Award for a technology device developed at TRI with commercialization potential.
