Celebrating Women in Science

Join UHN in honouring the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Posted On: February 11, 2022

Today, Friday, February 11, 2022, marks the seventh International Day of Women and Girls in Science—a day established by the United Nations to address this inequality and recognize the critical role of women and girls in STEM fields.

Worldwide, a significant gender gap persists in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Women account for the majority of health care professionals (80%), but typically hold lower paying positions than their male counterparts. Only 21% of health executives, board members and doctors are women.

At UHN, we believe that women should have equal opportunities to pursue and thrive in STEM careers. We have countless strong and visible role models; from women scientists to clinician-researchers, staff and trainees. Our colleagues are laying the foundation for a more equitable future by encouraging future generations of women to take their place at the forefront of scientific discovery.

Join UHN in celebrating the contributions made by women to scientific and medical advances by participating in the following virtual events, which are free and open to everyone.
