Researchers in any discipline at Toronto General Hospital Research Institute (TGHRI) are invited to submit applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. Applicants must hold an appointment at TGHRI at the level of Scientist. The successful candidate will be nominated by TGHRI for the next Canada Research Chair competition.
Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs are for emerging scholars. They should, at minimum, be assistant or associate professors, or possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed to these levels. To meet the criteria of the program, nominees must be no more than 10 years from their first degree (PhD or MD) at the time of the nomination. Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process (further information here).They must be outstanding and innovative researchers whose accomplishments have the potential to make a major impact, and become an internationally recognized leader in their field; have records of attracting and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows (taking into account different practices in the relevant field or discipline); and be proposing an original, innovative research program.
