As a part of our comprehensive Helpdesk v4.0, Research Information Systems has created many versions of a bookings system to manage the various equipment that we lend to the researchers of the University Health Network. Our internal bookings software manages RIS-owned equipment, while our soon-to-be released external bookings software manages equipment owned by the research community.
The freedom to book without thinking. That's the exact advantage of the RIS bookings system. Once users are registered with RIS, our Helpdesk staff have the ability to book equipment at the request of our users, and with the general piece of equipment (such as a projector), the bookings software can automatically pick an exact piece of available eequipment (such as digital camera #1) that is physically closest to the user's location and conceptually closest to the user's needs.
Our research community loved our bookings software so much that they expressed the need for their own; a client capable of tracking bookings for any piece of equipment and universal enough to be easily understood by anyone. This led to the birth the soon-to-be released Intranet Bookings Software v1.0.
With the accompanyment of a modern day internet browser, this bookings software is capable of running as close to a common scheduler (such as MS Outlook) as possible. Given this advantage and online help with every screen, this software is definately going to turn heads in the research community.
