Dr. Reid is a clinical scientist whose investigations have spanned basic sciences, clinical and translational research. Her research has focused on the dysfunction of the inspiratory and limb muscles in chronic disease, which involved the quantification of muscle structure and function at the cellular and macroscopic level. Dr. Reid has directed her current research towards using non-invasive tools that can be taken to the bedside including wireless near-infrared spectroscopy, dynamometry, and inclinometry. Recent projects have examined the underlying etiology of pain in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the deoxygenation of the respiratory muscles during different loading regimens in healthy people and those living with COPD. She has forged research collaborations nationally and internationally, with researchers in Europe, Japan and Brazil. Dr. Reid supervises research trainees at the MSc, PhD and PDF level in Rehabilitation Sciences and is also interested in collaborating with visiting research scientists.
