The overarching aim of Dr. Musselman's research is to develop innovative, clinically feasible approaches to restore movement, function and participation in adults and children living with damage to the central nervous system. Her research has focused on individuals living with spinal cord injury (SCI) and youth with cerebral palsy (CP), both of which are complex, multi-system diseases. Dr. Musselman develops and implements assessments, technologies and treatments that emphasize individualization, self-efficacy and the principles of neuroplasticity. Her current research has three major themes: 1) reducing the risk and impact of falls; 2) intervening early and intensively after perinatal stroke; and 3) augmenting clinical practice with objective measures.
