Nickolay Chirgadze
Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology

Nickolay Chirgadze graduated from Moscow University, Moscow, USSR. After receiving his Ph.D. in the Institute of Crystallography, he joined Eli Lilly & Company, initially as a postdoctoral fellow and then as a permanent employee in the position of Senior Scientist. After 11 years with the company, he transitioned to another pharmaceutical company, Pfizer Inc., where we was leading an X-ray crystallography group as a Research Fellow for 4 years. He was representing both Lilly and Pfizer companies on the Industrial Macromolecular Crystallography Association (IMCA) Board of Directors, as a board member since 1993 and Chairman of the Board in 2005. He is currently leading Structural Chemistry in the Structural Genomics Consortium. Nickolay also has an appointment as an associate professor at the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. He joined the UHN organization in 2006 as a leader of “A Network of Protein Crystallography Laboratories to Support Proteomics Research” project in the Clinical Genomics Centre.

Vladimir Romanov
Team Leader - Protein Expression and Purification

Vlad received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Biochemistry and Physiology Microorganisms, Pushchino, Russia. After completion of postdoctoral work at Michigan State University and the University of Toronto, Vlad joined Affinium Pharmaceuticals, where he worked as a Senior Scientist in the Biochemical Assays Department and was the Team Leader in the Protein Biochemistry Group. Vlad joined the Chirgadze lab in May 2006 as a Protein Biochemist.

Wei Qiu
Team Leader - Crystallography

During his Ph D studies at Laval University, Wei solved several crystal structures of human 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases. In July 2005, Wei joined Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) working on the parasite proteins, where he contributed more than 40 structures for SGC. Wei joined the lab in April 2010 and will lead the crystallography group towards novel protein structures.

Kim Lam
Research Technician - Protein Purification

Kim joined the lab in early 2007 as a co-op student, and returned as a full-time technician upon graduating from an Honours Biochemistry progam at the University of Waterloo in mid 2008.
